Why Computer Aided Dosing is so Important! How does the Computer Manage Doses ?
|
How Does the Computer Manage Doses ? The patient’s INR result is entered into the system. The system then uses the Target INR setting for the patient to decide if the result is In Range, Low or High. The current result and INR history are used to see if a trend can be observed that meets the criteria required to activate any of the dose change Triggers or Rules defined in Dawn AC. These rules can be adjusted by you in the Enterprise edition of Dawn AC to meet your local practice, although we supply the system with proven set of rules. This would allow you standardise practice. Note, there are three types of Trigger. If a Dose Change Trigger is activated, a modified dose will be calculated. If a Warning Trigger is activated, a warning will be produced. If a Dose Prevention Trigger is activated, an automatic dose calculation will be prevented and the dose will have to be set manually. Note, a dose change cannot occur automatically if the current result is in range. If a dose change is activated then the percentage dose change given can be calculated by an empirical equation. This equation is available, on request, to licensed customers. Note, you can override or manually adjust the suggested dose change. Note, a maximum percentage dose change can also be set. If the new dose percentage change is greater than this maximum percentage change, the dose adjustment is reduced to match the maximum percentage change allowed. The dose value is then converted into a dosage instruction in a specified format of your definition. When a dose is calculated, the interval to the next test will also be calculated based on the previous history of the patient. The user can specify when a particular interval is to be chosen by setting different criteria. © 2001 4S Information Systems Ltd |
