Interfacing Dawn AC with Other Information Systems

Dawn AC now has the ability to exchange data with other hospital information systems, such as Patient Administration Systems (PAS) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), by sending and receiving HL7 messages via TCP/IP sockets. HL7 stands for Health Language 7, an internationally recognised way of exchanging messages between hospital systems

Depending on the capabilities of your PAS or Hospital Information (HIS) system, the interface can be deployed to automatically add new anticoagulation patients into Dawn AC; update patient demographics and doctor information; set and amend appointments and update hospital numbers.

Dawn AC can also update PAS/HIS with new or changed appointments.  INR's can now be sent to Dawn AC via HL7 messages and Dawn AC will soon be able to automatically send back clinical information such as INR's, dosage instructions, comments and next test dates to the LIS or PAS system.

Is NPFit or Connecting For Health Stopping You

Can you not find the funding to purchase software you need or expand your current  system because of the UK NPFit? The National Programme is intended to build on existing IT systems and data already in use across the health service.

"One of the fundamental principles of the programme is - not to interfere with the local clinical and specialist-specific systems already successfully in use"

Richard Grainger, Director General for NHS IT, has said1

"I've never said that people on the ground should stop buying things they need now and can afford"

"This year we have £370 million of new money centrally, in addition to the £850 million of local baseline spend. People need to sustain that local spend"

Hosts Wanted for Dawn AC Version 7 Databases

Dawn AC Version 7 is a web browser based solution that can operate over the Internet or an intranet. This creates an opportunity for small organisations to gain access to Dawn AC through an intranet such as NHS Net to manage their own patients without the usual hassle of local installation and maintenance e.g. organising backups etc.

Version 7 only permits you to view patients that belong only to your organisation. Note each patient can belong to four organisations currently e.g. Hospital, GP practice, Nursing home, and Pharmacy.

We are looking for healthcare organisations willing to host such services using any spare server and network capacity for other organisations. For example, could you host a service for GPs in your area and other areas? This would be an opportunity to generate some revenue for your organisation. Please contact me if you can help.

Dawn AC Training - Ad Hoc Report Writer/ User Letters

On the 23rd November, the day after the User Group, we are planning two half-day training sessions at The Blue Bell Hotel, Heversham, South of Kendal on Ad Hoc Report Writing and User Letter Definition.

The course costs £125 plus VAT per half day per person. If you are interested please let us know as soon as possible.
