The Importance of Spotting Data Corruptions. Should you have a power failure or someone switches off a computer or a hardware/software problem occurs when Dawn AC is updating the Dawn AC database can be corrupted. In other words the information you have in the database may not be retrievable or unreadable or worse still give you information that is wrong. If you see any funny characters or strange data in your system please give us a call straightaway, so that we can help check it out. If not dealt with straightaway – by fixing the corruption or restoring a clean backup, the corruption can lie unnoticed for many months, and when spotted later you’ll be forced to do a lot of manual editing to correct the problems. Routine database checks are one way of checking that the database is sound. Before every back up or after any untoward event, a database check should be completed. Increased vigilance of the data in the database is also advisable. Performance Issues – Virus Checker and Network CardsSome customers have found that their virus checker has slowed down the response times of Dawn AC. If you notice a sudden drop off in response times – please check that your virus checker configuration has not changed. If so contact us for advice. The speed of your network cards in your workstations can affect the response times when operating on a network. If some of your workstations are slower than others check the speed of your network cards. Some customers have found that they had 10Mbit/sec cards instead of 100Mbit/sec cards on slow PCs.
