Importance of the Front Page Statistics

When you start up Dawn AC the Quick Start screen presents important statistics to ensure the safe operation of the system. For example it details the number of patients who have missed their tests and also have no test date at all. Please check these tallies routinely.

What are your ‘Gold Standards’ of Service?

I have just returned from an excellent 8th Anticoagulation Forum meeting held in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Orlando, Florida. Among the grand hotels of the world, the Ritz-Carlton hotels and resorts are renowned for their legendary service. Although I did not stay overnight at the hotel from what I witnessed during the conference the service was outstanding, so I did some research to see if there were any lessons to be learned for anticoagulation management.

Their motto is:

"We are ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen."

They have three simple steps of service

1.      A warm and sincere greeting. Use the guest name, if and when possible.

2.      Anticipation and compliance with guest needs.

3.       Fond farewell. Give them a warm good-bye and use their names, if and when possible.

Imagine if you substituted the word ‘patient’ for the word ‘guest’ in the above steps of service. What impact on the quality of your anticoagulation service perceived by the patients would it have?

For more information on the Gold Standards of the Ritz-Carlton see their web page at http://www.ritzcarlton.com/corporate/about_us/gold_standards.asp

13th Dawn AC User Group 21/22nd November 2005

We are in the process of planning the 13th Annual User Group conference in the Lake District. If you would like to present a short talk at the meeting please let me know. Speakers are given a small discount on the cost of the conference.

Dawn AC Version 7, a new web based district wide system based on client server technology will be one of the major features at the conference. It is hoped to run tutorials on the new system.

For clients in the South of England we are trying to organise cheap and convenient group travel arrangements. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in this.

14th Benchmarking Run

Stand by for the data collection for the next run of the benchmarking service. If you want to join please call urgently. In the last run 75 centres with 177,000 patients and 1,350,000 INRs were analysed across four target ranges. A comprehensive report is produced profiling your centre in detail and comparing it anonymously with other centres
