International Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis Meeting, Sydney, Australia

It was great to meet so many customers and prospective customers ‘down under’. Thanks for visiting our booth.

We currently have 300 customers in 14 countries and so this meeting provides us with a great platform to meet people from all over the world. We demonstrated Dawn AC Version 7, the web browser enabled version, and this provoked a great deal of enquires. Our plans are to continue to spread Dawn AC to all corners of the globe!

Dawn AC User Group 21/22nd November 2005 – Speakers needed

We are in the process of planning the 13th Annual User Group conference in the Lake District. I am looking for very short talks on practical tips and solutions that folks have used to help make their anticoagulation service better. Speakers are given a discount of £100 on the cost of the conference.

We already have two top talks lined up from Dr Dan Witt from Kaiser Permanente, Denver, Colorado, USA on comparing a pharmacy managed service with conventional care and Dr Eric Watts, Consultant Haematologist, Basildon on the benefits of Direct Thrombin Inhibitors.

Also we will be doing training sessions on the new web browser based Dawn AC Version 7.

Cheap rail travel from London has been arranged. Please contact us.

Award of CASE Studentship

We have been awarded a three year CASE studentship in conjunction with Lancaster University, to carry out research into the use of fuzzy logic models to help improve outcomes in the area of thrombosis.

There are number of areas where advanced computing techniques can be used to help improve decision making especially when the information is not precise or incomplete i.e. fuzzy. Here are a few examples:

  • The safest length of treatment for DVT patients
  • The diagnosis of DVT/PE
  • Chest pain diagnosis

These techniques are non linear as compared to normal statistical models and often provide better prediction models. Also as the dataset expands the model is self improving.

We are looking for datasets that our customers could provide us with to facilitate the study. If you have some data that has been analysed in the conventional statistical way and would like to compare an alternative type of analysis, this would be ideal.

If you are interested in of the above subjects, and would like to support the study, please let me know.
