Dawn AC Anticoagulation
Software 16th User Group 2008 |
|

We are holding our annual Dawn AC User Group on
the 28th and 29th of September this year at the Rheged Centre.
The User Group, as
many of you know, offers the chance for Health Care
Professionals to share ideas and learn alternative methods of
best practice within Anticoagulation therapy, as well as the
day being informative and beneficial.
We are keen to hear from those of you who would
like to give a short talk at the User Group Meeting, we are
offering a ‘speaker’s package’ where there will be a
£100 reduction in the meeting
fee and we also help with your presentation
preparation. In response to user requests, we invite you to
share how you use Dawn AC in different settings eg laboratory
based, community based with POC, pharmacist managed. In
addition, we would be interested in your experiences with
Version 7. If you are interested in speaking at our user group
then please contact us at
sales@4s-dawn.com.
Standby for more details on the meeting!

North American User Group |
|
The North American User Group is
going to be held on the 10th October in Albuquerque, the day
before the South West Symposium on Thrombosis and Hemostasis,
also being held in Albuquerque, making this, potentially, a
very
informative and worthwhile trip.
We are, however, in need of
speakers to contribute to the success of the day. If anyone
would be interested in giving a short presentation, rather
like what is mentioned above, then again we would be keen to
hear from you.
Thank you to everyone who kindly
offered to help organise this years meeting. As the
meeting this year is to be held in Albuquerque to gain the
benefit of two meetings in one trip, the following people from
around this area are organising the event:
- Dr. Rudy Pena, ABQ Health
Partners, Albuquerque
- Dr. Dan Witt, Kaiser Permanente, Colorado Region
- Angela Aldrich, Presbyterian
Hospital, Albuquerque

Medicare to Now Cover More
Patients |
|
The
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced
last week that Medicare will now
cover at home self blood testing
for patients on warfarin with
chronic atrial fibrillation or venous
thromboembolism. Medicare
previously only covered patients with
mechanical heart valve.
Dr. Jack Ansell, Chairman of
Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New
York said, "The scientific
research and success of mechanical heart valve patients
with INR
home testing for the past six years serve as proof that weekly
patient
home self-testing helps patients remain in therapeutic
range, thereby reducing
the risk of costly - and deadly -
complications".

DVT Registry Data Shows
Trellis Device Quickly Removes Clots |
|
At the Society of Interventional Radiology's 33rd Annual
Meeting
recently it was shown that DVT patients who have
been treated with
the Trellis device have their blood clots
broken up quicker than
patients on drugs alone - registry
data from more than 500
patients was used for this
presentation.
At present, the majority of deep vein thrombosis patients
are
given anticoagulants which prevent clots from happening but do not
break
up any existing clots.
Gerard O'Sullivan, an interventional radiologist, commented, "This
is a very
significant advance in DVT treatment, which hasn't
changed in more than
40 years".
"My Trellis patients not only felt better right away, but they
continued to feel
good months later. With anticoagulation alone,
it may take days to months for
patients to feel better, and some
never feel better".
The Trellis device uses a clot dispersion device along with
clot-busting drugs
to break up a clot.

Data Capture from Atrial Fibrillation Patients Planned
Across Europe
|
|

The European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery
(EACTS)
along with a healthcare IT company are planning to l
aunch the
International Atrial Fibrillation Registry (IAFR) to
collect
data on patient outcomes following surgery.
Steven Hunter, the registry chairman at James Cook University
in Middlesborough, says, "The goal is to collect data from
across Europe to enable us to make better informed judgements
on the
appropriate surgical treatment approaches for the
management of atrial
fibrillation".
Data will be collected from individual patient and then both
those and patient
groups will be tracked, and the results will
be available to the contributors.

up out of line results, as well as aiding the management and
treatment of anaemia patients by using a diary facility and
making the tracking and following up of patients more
efficient. This new application is integrated as an additional
module from version 7.6 of Dawn onwards.
More information on this new application can be found on our
website using the following link:
