“We use a program called Dawn AC from a company
named 4S in the UK. It is the best on the market.
We have really been impressed with how versatile
and user friendly the program is. I also like the fact that you can
design very effective reports and data queries using an ad hoc report
writer that is built into the system.
They have a very basic module that is simply a
database (Dawn AC Manager), a model for small organisations (Dawn AC
Practitioner), and a more upscale model (Dawn AC Enterprise). The
Enterprise and the Practitioner Models have dosing protocols built in
(it will actually suggest a dose and return visit date for you).
The model (Dawn AC Enterprise) with the bells and
whistles is relatively pricey but definitely worth the money. In the
grand scheme of things, this is not that expensive for software.
4S has been doing this for over a decade and their
software is used extensively in Europe. The dosing protocols have been
shown to increase the therapeutic control compared to experienced
anticoagulation providers (article in Lancet a little over a year ago,
lead author was Leon Poller who is a World Authority in
anticoagulation).”
Dr Barry D Vallance Consultant Physician & Cardiologist, Associate
Medical Director, Hairmyres and Stonehouse NHS Trust, Lanarkshire,
Scotland
“Dawn AC, with the
publication in the Lancet of the first multi-centre randomised study
of computerised anticoagulant dosing, is the only software system to
have been tested by a large scale trial with the results proving the
benefit of computerised dosing. This now makes Dawn AC the gold
standard to which other systems must be compared. “
Charles Twilley John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore, USA
"We love your system.
Thanks for the ongoing commitment to customer service !"
Dr Mike Galvin, Consultant Haematologist, Pinderfields Hospital,
Wakefield, UK
“For those of us who
have been attending the Dawn AC User Group meetings from the early
days we are aware and heartened by two things: first the continuing
total commitment of 4S to continually develop and improve their
product; the introduction of benchmarking represents another major
leap and second by the enormous enthusiasm and innovative ideas which
each new group of users brings to this activity, as well as the
continuing development of earlier users. The contribution that 4S have
thereby made to the anticoagulation service in the UK by facilitating
this massive outpouring of talent and dedication previously untapped
is over and above the quality of their product to which everyone
abundantly testifies.”
Dr W Ageno, McMaster University, Hamilton General
Hospital, Ontario
"Dawn AC resulted in a significant saving in trained personnel time,
reduced number of tests and dose changes"
Sandy Meadows, RN, Harrisonburg Medical Associates, Harrisonburg,
Virginia, USA
“With the Dawn AC
system it is easy to track patients. Patient compliance has increased
for scheduled lab drawing. Patient records are accessible whenever
needed. No time is spent locating the elusive patient chart. Patients
cannot be overlooked or "lost." Quality of care has increased because
each patient that comes in for an INR speaks to the RN assigned to the
clinic that day.
In summary, use of Dawn AC allows the clinic physicians to dose INRs
in an organised and reliable manner. Changes within the system have
been made with relative ease. 4S Information Systems has provided
excellent support for technical problems and in customisation of the
program to suit our organisations needs in an user friendly and timely
manner.”
Philip Booth, Senior Biomedical Scientist, Anticoagulation,
Pinderfields NHS Hospital Trust, Wakefield.
“The whole process of managing our clinics, as you
can see, is very much driven by the reports that we can draw from the
Dawn AC system. This allows us to keep a strict control of the process
as well as providing management statistics on the demand placed upon
the service.”
Dr A Craig, Glan Clwyd District General Hospital, Rhyl
"Nearly half the GP
practices now participating in the centralised computer aided dosing
have reduced the number of INR requests per month, whereas the
workload continues to increase in most practices not using the system.
Participating practices also have significantly fewer INRs greater
than 7.0"
Dr David Wright, Pinderfields & Pontefract Hospitals NHS Trust
"A study of Dawn AC
Warfarin induction dosing has shown computerised dosing to be as
effective and reliable as manually dosing patients across the
hospital. It shortens the time taken to achieve therapeutic
anticoagulation allowing earlier discharge from hospital."
John Seal, Pinderfields & Pontefract Hospitals NHS Trust
"The Events recording facility of Dawn AC has enabled us to identify
patients more likely to be at risk of a bleed"
Dr J A Murphy, Monklands Hospital, Airdrie
"The Ad Hoc Report Writer has proved a valuable contribution to audit"
