Latest Dawn AC Anticoagulation Benchmarking News

Latest statistics associated with current benchmarking run.

· 30 registered sites
· Over 32,000 patients
· Over 241,000 INRs per run
· Data processed to date for three six month periods ( 1st May 1998 to 31st October 1999)
· Currently incorporates 33 parameters profiling a site's performance
· Covers four therapeutic ranges used for 97% of all patients

Below are two summary graphs of the % time therapeutic calculated by the Rosendaal method. This illustrates the gap between sites participating and therefore the need for further work to understand what is causing the difference in performance. A fourth graph shows the relatively poor performance of patients starting therapy.

How to Participate in the Dawn AC Benchmarking Scheme

It is possible to arrange to join the scheme at any time. You can currently join the annonymous scheme for the period May 1st - October 31st 1999. Data collection occurs twice a year, covering the periods 1st May ~ 31st October and 1st November ~ 30th April.

The scheme costs £750 plus VAT per annum and this covers two sets of reports at six monthly intervals. All you need to do is send us an official purchase order clearly labelled Benchmarking for the amount shown above, and we'll send you the necessary software and instructions.

If do not have a Dawn AC software system, we can consider the possibility of transferring your data to the service.

Reports produced include
· a comparison of your site to a summary of all sites participating in a particular run plus the sites with highest and lowest times in range using the Rosendaal method
· a review of your site's performance through the weeks of a patient's treatment
· a comparison for your site with previous runs (assuming you have participated in prior data collections).

These reports will enable you to accurately monitor your patient care and comply with quality control requirements. With the site's permission, issues such as patient education and methods of giving dosage instruction will be reviewed and if possible guidelines for best practice produced.
